"Edible Gardens & Delicious Weeds" with Tama Matsuoka Wong
Winter is a great time to dream of spring and plan new plantings. Forager Tama Matsuoka Wong will talk about a different type of garden, one that provides a buffet of delicious wild ingredients. She will give tips for planning a wild garden in your backyard, what plants (especially weeds) you might expect to emerge first and fine native species to plant as spring comes, several sold by the Schuylkill Center, and bring treats from her winter foraging, with recipes, including snacks made from pine, hickory, and barberry.
Tama Matsuoka Wong is the forager for a number of renowned restaurants in the New York City and Philadelphia area. Her work restoring native meadows and eating wild weeds has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, CBS News, and NPR, among others. Her book Foraged Flavor, a seasonally organized field guide on cooking with foraged edibles, was published in 2012 and nominated for a James Beard award.
Price: $15 members, $20 non-members.
