Invasive Brewing
Noon-3:30p Saturday May 9, 2015 | The Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education |
This event occurs in the past The art of American beer brewing goes back centuries before our founding fathers experimented with grains, molasses, and even spruce to create their concoctions. We’ll do some experimenting of our own with invasive plants we can find in the spring forest, while learning the basics of making beer with Home Brewed Events. While the beer is brewing, come on a hike and learn about the history of beer and brewing, as well as how to identify edible plants commonly found in Philadelphia forests. Pre-registration required. NOTE: Total brewing period is 4-5 weeks. Home Brewed Events will ferment the beer for 2-3 weeks off site and then bring the brew back to the Schuylkill Center for bottling and pick-up. Total volume brewed is 2 – 2 ½ cases. Participants will be contacted by Home Brewed Events when the fermentation period is over and the beer is available for the bottling process and pick-up. After 2 more weeks, enjoy your Schuylkill Center Invasive Plant Brew! Price: $40 members, $50 non-members.
